Animal rights activists Hema Chowdhary, who allegedly made objectionable remark against Nagas and people from the North East on social media, was brought to Kohima on Monday night around 8.30 p.m. Hema was brought to Nagaland (Kohima) from Mumbai via Delhi and Imphal by flight.
Upon reaching Kohima, Chowdhary along with other police officials who had accompanied her were taken straight to Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) where a team of doctors and nurses conducted tests for COVID-19 and other necessary medical formalities. The swab test result is expected to be out by July 21.
All standard operating protocols as per the guidelines issued by state Health & Family Welfare department relating to Covid-19 pandemic were being adhered to, SP (Crime) & PRO Nagaland Police, Manoj Kumar stated.
According to sources, Chowdhary is likely to be kept at Thizama 4th NAP camp where the interrogation will be held.
It was learnt that Hema allegedly tried to jump-off while in the lock-up in Mumbai and sprained her ankle and injured her wrist. This was the reason why she was brought in a wheelchair.
Police said that they have been given a transit remand of four days by the Mumbai Court on July 18.
Accordingly the investigation will begin as per the laid down procedures of law, Kumar said.
He said that a cyber crime case has been registered against Hema for her posts in YouTube/Facebook under Cyber Crime PS Case No. 08/2020 U/S 153A/153B/505(1)/505(2) IPC R/W 3(r)/3(s)/3(u) SC/ST (POA) Act.
She had made derogatory statements against Nagas conducing to public mischief and also promoting enmity between different groups of people, which is prejudicial to maintenance of harmony, he said.
In this regard, a non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima and subsequently a team of Nagaland Police led by a Dy.SP rank officer arrested Chowdhary from her Mumbai residence in Oshiwara locality on July 17, Kumar stated.
