Dimapur, June 9 (MExN): The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups met with the United Naga Council (UNC), Manipur on June 7 in Dimapur and held discussions “focussed on the ever increasing socio-economic and demographic pressure upon Naga tribes and the ancestral land in Manipur, which is threatening the peaceful co-existence in the neighbourhood.”
According to a press release issued through its Media Cell on Wednesday, WC, NNPGs Convener N Kitovi Zhimomi explained that the Committee desired to meet the UNC as “It was appropriate time to meet Naga brothers, be it from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland or Manipur because limiting oneself to just one group or one leader will not be in the interest of Nagas today.”
Truth and reality must transcend artificial borders. Meeting own brothers will dispel misgivings, apprehensions and doubts and so UNC, representing entire Nagas in Manipur, had every right to know the factual position between Government of India (GoI) and WC, NNPGs, the release stated.
The WC, NNPGs and UNC meeting took a “free, frank, factual and critical view of the current Naga social and political position. The leaders cleared the perceived societal and regional mistrust of one upon the other which must end.”
Along with this, relevant political and historical matters were brought to light and healthy views were exchanged along with documents and the meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on peace in the land and peaceful co-existence with all Naga neighbours, the release stated.
