‘Health delivery system in Nagaland uniquely positioned to address multi faceted challenges’

Governor La Ganesan today said that the public health delivery system in the State is uniquely positioned to address multi faceted challenges facing our society today and the challenges that may arise during emergencies.

He was speaking during the official announcement of the Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland as the new Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland Branch and launching of new ambulance donated by President, IRCSN and Governor, La Ganesan at Raj Bhavan today. 

The governor called to delve into the history and tradition of the Red Cross movement that was born out of compassion for our fellow human being and said that the minister of Health and Family Welfare has to assume the role of the Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland Branch because of the symbiotic relationship that exists between health and humanitarian work. 

He said public health delivery system in the state, the minister and his officials are uniquely positioned to address the multi faceted challenges facing our society today and the challenges that may arise during emergencies.

“By assuming the chairmanship of the IRCSN, the Minister re-affirms his commitment to fostering synergy between health care and humanitarian assistance, ensuring that no one is left behind in their hour of need,” the governor remarked. 

He hoped that the tenure of the new chairman will be marked by compassion, empathy and unwavering dedication to the service of humanity.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Nagaland, P Paiwang Konyak and the chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland Branch thanked the Red cross, Nagaland branch team led by Governor La Ganesan for inducting him. 

Konyak further expressed optimism to overcome any obstacle and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve with the dedication and support of our volunteers, staff, partners and donors.

He also said organizations like Red Cross play crucial role in the society and asked them to stay prepared and updated with technology before any eventuality occurs for an effective response to emergencies and disasters.

“Towards this we can leverage technology, data-driven insights, and best practices to optimize our operations and enhance the effectiveness of our programs and services,” the new chairman underscored. 

Konyak added that, the society will remain committed towards fostering collaboration and partnership, both within the organization and with all the external stakeholders, to maximize our impact and reach.

A brief report of IRCSN was presented by General Secretary, IRCSN, Akhale V Khamo, conveyed that the International Red Cross Society was established with a commitment to providing assistance without bias, preventing human suffering, safeguarding life and health, and ensuring respect for all individuals while emphasizing Nagaland’s pride in being part of this esteemed organization, she affirmed their on-going adherence to Red Cross principles.

Khamo said the contemporary challenges, pointing out that beyond the traditional issues of war and conflict, climate change poses significant threats including the gradual rise in temperatures is altering weather patterns and disrupting the natural balance, posing risks to human and other forms of life on Earth. 

She said as a Red Cross member, their responsibility to deliver high-quality humanitarian action that positively impacts people’s lives, reducing their risks and vulnerabilities. Success, she added, hinges on staying true to fundamental principles such as Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.

Earlier, Pronouncement of Appointment of Chairman IRCSN was delivered by Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, along with the handing over of the appointment Letter to the Chairman.

A prayer was also made by Pastor Rengma Baptist Church Kohima, Jonathan Mesen, and special song was presented by Temjentiba Ao while words of gratitude were presented by Vice Chairman, IRCSN, Sawathang Kez, aand the programme was chaired by Johnny K Ruangmei, Member, IRCSN.
