KOHIMA, MAY 16 (MExN): A one-day orientation on National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) for Medical Officers, Community Health Officers and Staff Nurses was held at the conference hall, Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW), Kohima on May 15.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Dr E Motsuthung Patton, Principal Director, DoHFW, while addressing the MOs, CHOs and Nurses, regarded it a privilege to service the people especially in the interior part of the districts and an opportunity to provide health care services to the needy people. He appealed to the health care providers to work relentlessly with an aim to improve the State’s health indicators and in giving quality health care to the people.
Dr Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Nagaland said more focus is given in providing quality health care in the public health sector in the country. She also mentioned that NQAS is the highest quality certification for public health facility in recognition of the high standard maintained by public health units.
She emphasized that the main focus of NQAS is to enhance satisfaction level of patients seeking public facilities and to rebuild the trust in public health system while ensuring quality health care and at the same time maintaining the ethical standard. She urged the participants to try their best to make the health units within their jurisdiction in NQAS certified health units.
Dr Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer, NHM, Nagaland, while welcoming the participants, mentioned that the National Health Policy 2017 aims at universal health coverage for all which will be achieved only when the health care providers give excellent, safe and quality health care. She also added the Ministry of Health, GoI also emphasis on quality by ensuring that all the heath units are being NQAS Certified and that, getting this certification is a key indicator not only for Niti Ayog ranking but also for aspirational blocks.
In Nagaland, three Urban Primary Health Units and two Primary Health Units have so far achieved NQAS certification. According to the Government of India directive, for NQAS Certification, the State should achieve 50% of Public Health NQAS certified by 2025 and 100% by December 2026.
