Mon town orgs to meet F&CS for explanation

A huge quantity of unexplained PDS rice was uncovered from multiple locations in Mon town rousing suspicion. The detection was made during an “inspection” of a general store by the Konyak Union, Mon Unit and Mon Area Student’s Union on July 18.

As per a press release issued by the two bodies, the inspection was made based on “public complaint” during which PDS rice approximated to be over 10 truckloads in quantity, which were allegedly “unloaded from Mon FCI go-down,” was discovered. It said that the store was subsequently “sealed” due to the suspicious nature of the huge quantity of “public rice.” It informed the public of Mon to bear with the inconvenience for a few days until further order is issued to reopen the store, owned by one Anil Yadav. 

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Konyak Union, Mon Unit, told The Morung Express the rice was found stored in atleast 6-7 godowns. According to him, the inspection was conducted after verbal complaints were received from the public about the amassing of a huge quantity of PDS rice over the past 1-2 days. He said that they were still to ascertain the exact quantity, while adding, “We found approximately 10 truckloads of rice in different godowns.” One truckload is said to contain on average 350 bags, weighing roughly 40 kg each. 

He informed that the owner of the shop, which was sealed, allegedly run the godowns from where the unexplained PDS rice was found. “We will be meeting the Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS) department tomorrow (July 19) for details. We will ask them under what conditions the rice was unloaded in the godowns, whether it is for sale or being stored temporarily,” he said.  

A formal complaint was still to be filed, however. “Lodging a formal complaint would be considered based on the information we get from the F&CS,” he added.
