Fishery Dept releases fingerlings at Dzü-ü River

Through River Ranching Programme under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Nagaland released lakhs of fingerlings at Dzü-ü river in Kohima district on July 21.

 

 

 

This is part of stocking of fingerlings in riverine system of Nagaland state for the year 2021-22.

Addressing the gathering, Rongsennungba, Director of fisheries & aquatic resources Nagaland told the people to do away with unethical fishing within their respective jurisdiction. He also called upon the villages to avoid fishing during breeding season (June to August).

The Director also stressed on the need to focus on fishery eco-tourism for angling and research related matters.

Dr Rongsenkumzuk, Deputy Director Fisheries and AR informed that the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India implemented  Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana – A scheme to bring about Blue Revolution through sustainable and responsible development of fisheries sector in India for holistic development of fisheries sector.

PMMSY is being implemented in all the states and Union Territories for a period of 5 years from financial year 2020-21 to 2024-25.

PMMSY is designed to address critical gaps in the fisheries value chain from fish production, productivity and quality to technology, post-harvest infrastructure and marketing.

It aims to modernize and strengthen the value chain, enhance traceability and establish a robust fisheries management framework while simultaneously ensuring the socio-economic welfare of fishers and fish farmers.

Kohima Village GB Keduoneituo Kire, Kezoma village council chairman Kikrosa Naki and Kohima Village Head GB Medo-o Keretsü also spoke at the programme and thanked the department for reaching out such scheme to enhance fish population.

The programme was chaired by Neitho-o Kuotsu, joint director fisheries and aquatic resources while M. Kezo, senior pastor, Sakhabama village invoked God’s blessings.

Later, Vinyü Yiese, GB,  D. Khel Kohima village proposed vote of thanks.
