Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports, Advisor Er Zale Neikha inaugurated Fire Station under the department of Fire & Emergency Services at Khuzama village in Kohima district on December 21.
Speaking on the occasion, Er Neikha thanked Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, where under his guidance and support, this Fire Station has been approved. He acknowledged Pohwang Konyak, Advisor Fire & Emergency Services, SIRD and Relief & Rehabilitation for introducing this fire station at Khuzama, which is the first fire station within Southern Angami area.
He was optimistic that the establishment of this fire station will reduce the volume of risk factors and take immediate respond to any fire related incidents. This fire-station will be of great importance not just for Khuzama village but for all Southern Angami area as well as the neighbouring districts of Manipur state, he said.
Er Neikha said that fire fighters are the first responders who save lives and properties in time of fire related incidents and other hazardous situations. Stating that the expert personnel of fire and emergency services is needed, Er Neikha said that community has trust on them in any emergency situations.
He also requested the department to continue to create awareness to the community on fire safety measures.
Pohwang seeks public cooperation
Also speaking at the function, Pohwang Konyak said that Khuzama fire station is 21st Fire Station out of the requirement of 48 fire stations in Nagaland.
Stating that the department has positioned the required fire fighting equipment and manpower, he called upon the public to reason together and put coordinated efforts for proper function of this fire station. He requested the public to exercise positive attitude with the fire fighters and avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.
Neilasa Sopfü, Inspector General, F&ES Nagaland informed that the department will carry forward its task in creating public awareness on fire safety measures across the state.
Sopfü stated that all the educational institutions need to install fire safety equipment/facilities to avoid fire hazards and incidents.
He sought the cooperation of other high rise buildings owners and churches as and when the department comes for inspection.
Apart from covering all villages under Southern Angami area, he said this Fire station will also cater to the needs of the neighbouring Manipur state, which is hardly one and half kilometre from Khuzama.
The function of this fire station will be regional in nature, he said adding that this fire station will try to attend any fire related incident as and when their service is required.
Nosazol Charles, state information commissioner and Zedil Naleo, chairman Khuzama Village Council also spoke at the function.
Earlier, Mhaphuvi Naleo, pastor, Khuzama Baptist Church prayed for the programme.
