Excise Dimapur destroys 68,818 bottles of liquor

DIMAPUR, December 15: Excise Dimapur & mobile squad conducted a combined destruction programme of seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at the excise directorate on Tuesday. A total of 68,818 bottles of assorted brands of liquor along with 51 litre of country liquor were destroyed.

According to superintendent of excise Dimapur, T. Arilong Longkumer, the destroyed IMFL were seized between July 2021-December 2021.

Speaking at the programme, commissioner of excise Hotolu Swu congratulated the district excise and mobile squad on the commendable performance.

He said that it was one of the largest record seizures in the recent times.

Hotolu however stated that it was “just the tip of the iceberg” as the volume of liquor inflow had increased in recent years.

This according to him called for a serious revisit on the NLTP status by the government and that it was high time to review the entire issue surrounding liquor prohibition regime.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of excise, Chanlei Angh who also chaired the programme lauded the units for their achievement despite the pandemic. He also encouraged new recruits to follow leads of the senior and the system of merit cum seniority would pay dividends for those that displayed dedication and devotion. Brief reports on the seizures were read out by superintendents of excise, Dimapur & mobile squad stating.

It was disclosed that altogether 213 IMFL offences were registered under the NLTP Act 89 and the revenue against these cases was Rs. 4.46 lakh.

The total estimated value of the IMFL material destroyed was Rs. 1.05 crore.
