As the Election Commission of India made an announcement in the afternoon informing that the Lok Sabha poll schedule will be announced on March 15, MLAs of the eastern Nagaland bloc boarded a flight to the national capital on March 14.

The MLAs, under the banner of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU), had skipped a meeting, called by the ENPO, that was scheduled to take place in Tuensang on March 14. The ENLU and ENPO both claimed that the meeting was postponed on account of the former already scheduling a visit to Delhi.

The ENLU members, who were seen arriving at the Dimapur airport, included A Nyamnai Konyak, S Kiusumew Yimchunger, C Kipili Sangtam, Bangtick Phom, Keoshu Yimchunger, Naiba Konyak, Lima Onen Chang and others.

The ENLU Secretary, Lima Onen Chang reiterated what he told The Morung Express on March 14— to meet the MHA team constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to directly negotiate with the ENPO on the matter of the proposed Frontier Naga Territory. As per the ENPO, Home Minister Amit Shah had assured, in December 2023 that a Memorandum of Settlement for establishing the FNT will be finalised before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

If the meeting with the MHA team takes place, Chang said, today, that it would be a first for MLAs from the eastern bloc. “We feel that as responsible leaders of the ENPO area, it is necessary for us to go and meet the officers,” he said. The ENLU was however yet to fix an appointment.

The other MLAs, who were prodded for details did not reveal much. There also appeared a lack of clarity among some of the MLAs as to who the ENLU were actually set to meet. One of them said that the intention was to meet the Prime Minister and Home Minister.

Three of the ENLU members led by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak are already camping in Delhi.
