Correspondent MOKOKCHUNG, DEC 9 (NPN): The economic blockade along NH 702D (Mokokchung-Mariani) imposed by various Assam-based organizations since November 15 was lifted on Wednesday evening.

Informing this to Nagaland Post, deputy commissioner (DC) Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir said that DC Jorhat had conveyed to him about the withdrawal of the blockade in Mariani.

DC Mokokchung expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to the people of Tsurangkong range and the citizens of Mokokchung district for showing maturity and restraint by not taking law into own hands during this trying times.

Meanwhile, the counter blockade imposed by the Tsurangkong Range Naga Youth Front (TRNYF) was also lifted as appealed by the district administration of Merangmen circle to reciprocate the goodwill gesture, TRNYF president Bendangwati and assistant general secretary Rongsen said.

Earlier during the day, tension prevailed along the border area of Aosenden village. When contacted, TRNYF president, said that hundreds of volunteers from all villages under Tsurangkong range gathered at Aosenden village following reports of some Assam based organizations serving a 72-hour deadline on Assam government to remove the structure/camp recently setup by Nagaland Police and to demolish the concrete bridge along the Tsusu river constructed by the Nagaland government.

Bendangwati also said that there was a public announcement made across the border on Tuesday night urging the public of neighbouring Assam to gather on Wednesday to proceed towards Nagaland.

This prompted the TRNYF to mobilize the manpower and move towards Aosenden village, he added. However, there was no report of any untoward incidents even as Mokokchung district administration confirmed that the situation was brought under control. TRNYF said that they had also conveyed to the Assam police to vacate their post for peaceful coexistence of the people of the two states.

While reminding that the people of Assam and Nagaland had been sharing peaceful neighbourly relations since time immemorial, TRNYF cautioned the Assam Police, stationed near the village, that they will be held responsible for any untoward incidents in the future. The volunteers dispersed from the area after learning that the Assam based organizations had gathered at Mariani to meet the DC and SP, TRNYF said.
