The Directorate of School Education (DoSE) Nagaland today honoured the state level awardees of Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar (SVP) 2021-22.
The state level felicitation programme took place at Morung Conference Hall, DoSE, in the presence of KT Sukhalu, Advisor School Education & SCERT, Nagaland, Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary for School Education & SCERT, Limawabang Jamir, Secretary School Education and other officials.
The Ministry of Education, Government of India launched SVP 2021-22 on January 12 last year to recognize, inspire and celebrate excellence in sanitation and hygienic practice in schools.
Also a new section on COVID preparedness and response has also been added considering its implications for health, hygiene and safety of the children.
“The purpose of SVP is to honour and award those schools who have undertaken exemplary work in the field of water (Drinking water), sanitation and hygiene,” said Limawabang Jamir, secretary school education adding that SVP also provides a bench mark and roadmap for schools to make further improvements in the future.
The awards are of different categories such as District Level, State Level and National Level.
The performance of the schools were evaluated under six indicators like- Drinking water, toilets, hand-washing with soap, operation and maintenance, capacity building and COVID- 19 (Preparedness & Response).
As per UDICE 2020-21, a total number of schools in Nagaland’s stands 2719. Out of this, 468 schools got registered and only 276 schools from the entire district applied for SVP award.
Nominated schools from Nagaland for National level award
Wonthungo Tsopoe, Director, School Education announced the nominated schools from Nagaland for National level award.
In the category of “Overall” nominated schools include; Government Middle Schools, DC Colony, Peren town, St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School Kohima and Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School Dimapur.
Other schools nominated for national level award in Sub-Category includes; Fernbrook School Wokha town (COVID 19- Preparedness & Response), Government Middle School, DC Colony, Peren Town (Hand washing with soap), St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School Kohima ( Water), Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School Dimapur (Toilets), St. Paul Higher Secondary School Dimapur (Operation & maintenance) and Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School Dimapur (Behavior change & capacity building)
Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, chairman, Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School Dimapur and Pelingrangle, head teacher, Government Middle School, DC Colony, Peren Town spoke on behalf of the awardees.
