Traffic advisory issued for repairs at old Road Over Bridge

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 28 (MExN): The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, has announced traffic diversions and restrictions as part of a plan to facilitate rehabilitation work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Hotel Tragopan along National Highway 29.

The changes, which will come into effect on October 1, are being implemented in compliance with a directive from the Nagaland Works and Housing Department.

The rehabilitation works will fully cut off vehicular movement on the old overpass near Hotel Tragopan until the project is completed. A series of diversions has been established for heavy, medium, and light vehicles to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the repair process.

Heavy Vehicles Rerouted
Starting October 1, all heavy vehicles entering Dimapur from Dillai Gate and New Field Gate, intending to proceed towards Chumoukedima and Kohima, will be diverted to the Khatkati CRPF Group Centre Charali Dimapur Bypass, which connects via the 4-lane highway to Chumoukedima.

Similarly, heavy vehicles traveling towards the western side of Dimapur—covering Golaghat Road, Blue Hill Area, GS Road, MP Road, Kalibari Road, Khermahal, City Tower, and Ao Tajen Road—must enter through Dillai Gate or New Field Gate.

Vehicles delivering cargo to the eastern areas of Dimapur, such as Nagarjan, Supermarket, Burma Camp, Purana Bazar, Naharbari, and Padumpukhri, will also take the Khatkati CRPF Group Centre Charali Dimapur Bypass, passing through Kaliram and Kushiabill villages.

Heavy commercial vehicles will be banned within Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) jurisdiction from 7:00 AM daily, with exceptions granted to medium-sized school buses. Additionally, heavy vehicles, including those operated by the police, army, and paramilitary forces, will not be allowed on the city’s flyover during the rehabilitation period.

Restrictions for Light and Medium Vehicles
For light and medium vehicles, including passenger cars and smaller transport vehicles, alternative routes have been outlined. Vehicles entering the western side of Dimapur from Chumoukedima or Kohima must take the Thahekhu route, passing through Nagaland Zoological Park. Those heading to Assam should use the Kushiabill or Veterinary Burma Camp roads via the Kvimab Check Gate.

Key Traffic Diversions and Restrictions
The road from Deluxe Point to Holy Cross Police Point will become a one-way street, with parking on the right side restricted to two-wheelers only.

Vehicles traveling from City Tower towards Holy Cross Police Point must continue straight to Dhobinallah, while those traveling in the opposite direction must continue straight to City Tower.

The stretch from Khermahal to Deluxe Point will be designated as a one-way road.

The road from GS Road to Durga Mandir will accommodate two-way traffic.

Kalibari Road, from Jain Temple Gate to Durga Mandir Junction, will operate as a one-way street.

Commercial vehicles, such as auto-rickshaws, auto pick-ups, and Tata Mobiles, will be restricted from entering the Tourist Point Flyover, Eros Lane Junction, and MP Road between Dhobinallah and City Tower between 9:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

These traffic restrictions and diversions will remain in effect until the completion of the rehabilitation work on the ROB, though no official completion date has been provided.

Motorists have been encouraged to plan their routes accordingly to avoid disruptions. The Dimapur police have assured the public that the rerouting measures have been carefully designed to minimize inconvenience and keep traffic moving as smoothly as possible during the repairs.
