Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, DEC 27 (NPN): In a major connectivity boost to Nagaland and neighbouring Karbi Anglong in Assam, the State’s commercial hub was finally connected to New Delhi via direct flight on Saturday.

With the arrival of the first direct flight– Indigo 6E 2433 – at Dimapur airport from New Delhi, the long-standing wish of the people of the State finally got fulfilled. The flight (Indigo 6E 2434) later departed the same day for the National Capital with139 passengers on board.

The first flight left the airport here at 2:35 pm and arrived at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi at 5:35 pm, clocking a travel time of exactly three hours.

Earlier, the flight from IGI Airport with 149 passengers on board was welcomed with traditional water cannon salute with spraying arcs of water over the flight.

Talking with Nagaland Post over telephone, Dimapur airport director Mughavi Zhimo said a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the airport here for the first direct Dimapur-New Delhi flight, adding the ribbon was cut by the first reporting passenger at the airport.

He mentioned that the flight will operate three days a week – on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday – and that the schedule would continue till March 25, 2021.

Zhimo said that there was a positive response to the newly-introduced flight operation.

It may be mentioned that the airport had no direct flight to New Delhi thus far and all the existing flights were via Kolkata. The direct flight is expected to help ease travel between the National Capital and Dimapur with its surrounding areas.
