With the lifting of PAP(Protected Area Permit) on yearly basis, tourism in Nagaland has grown remarkably and is becoming a promising sector, sharing its tourism potential with other places in the country and the world. This was stated in Nagaland Economic Survey 2023-24 tabled at the recent 4th session of 14thNagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima.
A total of 1, 54,057 visitors set foot at the Hornbill Festival at the Hornbill Festival during 2023, stated the survey report conducted by Directorate of Economic & Statistics, Govt of Nagaland. There were 11, 4860 local tourist with 49 percent increase in foreign tourists’ visitors during the Hornbill Festival.
As per the report during the year 2022, 375 numbers of restaurants, 145 numbers of Hotels and 63 numbers of Paying Guest/Home Stay accommodation were registered, whereas during the year 2023, 376 numbers of restaurants, 142 numbers of Hotels and 68 numbers of Paying Guest/Home Stay accommodation were registered under Tourism Department. During the same year, 30 numbers of tourist village and 33 numbers of tourist spots were registered.
The domestic tourist inflow during 2021 was 23,968 which increased to 99,720 during the year 2023, whereas the foreign tourist inflow during 2021 was 325 which drastically increased to 62 percent during the year 2023.
