CNSA stresses on ‘unity without conflicts’

In preparation of the Central Naga Students’ Association (CNSA) upcoming general conference, the association today held a press conference at Agri Expo, Dimapur and stressed on the need to usher in ‘unity without conflicts.’ The CNSA’s 4th General Conference scheduled to be held on April 18th and 19th at the Agri Expo.

Speaking to media persons, Himato Yephto, President of CNSA earlier gave a brief introduction about the formation of the association. “CNSA was formed in the year 2010 in order to uphold unity among the federating tribes. While also to exchange cultural similarities amongst ourselves and to uplift each other in various fields,” he said.

Further expounding on this he said that, “Here in Nagaland we have so many tribes, and we have the Eastern Naga Students Federation and the Southern Nagas also have their own students association. That is why we felt it necessary to form the association, between the three Central tribes.”

Zhevihe Sumi, Convenor of the organising committee explained that Dimapur was chosen as the next location for the general conference to be held, due to its proximity and a place of commonality for all the tribes.

With regards to this year’s theme for the general conference, ‘Beyond Boundaries,’ he underlined that, “Borders are social markers, as they reinforce the division of our society. This is based on tribe, class, gender and many other factors, so the challenge is to break out of this division and to usher in unity without conflicts.”

He stated that due to differences in cultural, historical and political aspects between communities, “we have created issues unnecessarily.” So the aim of this general conference is to stress on the need for promoting inclusiveness and to reach out to the other as well,” he said.

The main guest speakers for the general conference are Y Patton, Deputy CM; Imkong L Imchen, NPF MLA; Kaito Aye, Minister of Agriculture; Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs; and Dr Anungla Aier, Rtd Director of Higher Education. Noting on this matter, Zhevihe clarified that, “We are not giving any importance to any one particular political party or tribe. But with equal concern, we want to take everyone on board for the interests of the CNSA in particular and the Nagas in general.”

With regard to the invitees, he mentioned that, “We have limited the numbers to 100 delegates from each unit, besides that all the organisations including the technocrats, bureaucrats, legislative lawmakers, Hohos, mother’s associations, GB federations and youth organisations. Taking everyone on board in an inclusive manner of the three federating tribes.”

“Previously we used to invite some of the other tribes but since this time the days within which the programme will be held is very limited. The participation will be within the three tribes,” he stated.

The CNSA also made it clear with regard to recent rumours floating around social media regarding de-affiliation from the NSF. “We would like to clarify that there is no such stance taken by the CNSA. Our purpose of formation was to look into the matters which were not touched upon at the main body,” said Shilukaba Longchar, Secretary of Organising Committee.

Doyang Bridge to be completed soon
Speaking with Himato Yeptho after the end of the press conference, he revealed that the Doyang Bridge at Liphayan is expected to be completed by the end of April as assured by the contractor undertaking the project.

Himato who is also the Convenor of Young Naga Action Committee for Foothill Road under the NFRCC said that if the reassured deadline is not met by contractor, i.e. M/S Shohe and Sons, then the committee will take further course of action.

It may also be pertinent to mention that the construction of the 2-land RCC bridge began in 2014 with a 33 month timeframe given for full completion.
