Clean Election Prayer Rally in Mokokchung

The Ao Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship in collaboration with District Administration and District Election Office (DEO) organised a ‘Clean Election Prayer Rally’ under the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) from Imkongmeren Sports Complex to Police point main town, Mokokchung on February 7.

A short speech themed, ‘Nagaland for Christ’ was delivered by Rev Prof Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM.

Taking references from the Bible, Prof Mar urged the gathering to discard the idols that they idolize, which is of selling votes and indulging in unethical practices.

Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS on behalf of the administration addressed the gathering, where he said that everyone is aware of what is right and wrong and it all comes down to the voters and their conscience.

The DC mentioned that SVEEP is a noble initiative of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to promote quantitative and qualitative aspects in Urban/local election, assembly elections and Parliamentary election. SVEEP also promotes awareness on one’s rights, responsibilities and duties in making in making a better society, given the fact that vote or adult franchise is the biggest asset in Democracy.

The DC also flagged off the prayer rally from Imkongmeren sports complex.

Prayers and short speeches were delivered at four other spots of Mokokchung town by Rev Aowabang, Pastor, Guwahati Ao Baptist Arogo on the topic Clean election against corruption, Imnatoshi, Pastor, Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo on Vote for clean election, Rev Dr Lima Jamir, Pastor Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo on Free & Fair Election and Sentisashi Aier, Senior Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo on Vote against communalism. 

The concluding speech was delivered by Rev. L Meren Kichu, Pastor, Sabangya Compound Baptist Arogo. The rally was attended by Pastors’, church youths, women department and the citizens of the town.
