Correspondent KOHIMA, DEC 21 (NPN) : Director General of Software Technology Park of India (STPI), under Union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Dr Omkar Rai said the Central government was looking forward to capitalise the strength and talent of Nagas in IT sector.
Addressing the 6th edition of e-Naga Summit 2020 in virtual mode on Monday on the theme “Emerging Technologies and its impact on future society”, Rai said OctaNE, a centre of excellence and incubation in the field of IT application in graphical design and understanding the strength and Talent of the Nagas in IT sector, has been set up, adding that this would materialise soon.
He also acknowledged the State government for facilitating setting up of STPI in Kohima and hoped that the park would be dedicated soon.
Rai mentioned that the aspiration of the State government to help Nagaland become IT hub of South East Asia was genuine as India’s ambition to become software product nation witnessed outsourcing IT products worth $147 billion in 2018-19 and generated revenue amounting to $191 billion.
In his speech, IT&C advisor Mmhonlumo Kikon remarked that the summit in virtual mode with top experts in IT sector from Europe, Asia and India showed that the State government was committed to fulfil the vision of making Nagaland the “next IT hub of South East Asia” and exuded confidence that with the support of all the experts, the dream could be fulfilled.
In his introductory note, IT principal secretary KD Vizo explained that the theme “Emerging Technologies and its impact on future society” was chosen keeping in mind the new technologies that were emerging at a very fast pace, the need to balance “ourselves” to adopt technology for promoting efficiency, accountability and transparency and also to preserve and protect the core human values.
He said though the whole world was gearing up for Christmas celebration, the department did not compromise the quality of resource persons and described them as some of the finest in the world today.
He expressed the hope that their participation would help uplift one of the most backward regions and thanked the resource persons for being a part of the summit.
Resource person Liselotte, founding partner of Future Navigator, Denmark spoke on the topic “Aftershock and opportunities scenario for post pandemic future”.
Sara Fernandes, international consultant on e-Gov, cyber security and smart cities and lecturer at Minho University, Portugal spoke on “Cyber security, the new deal”, while Merie Miagre, a senior expert on cyber security from Estonia, spoke on “Cyber Hygiene”.
Nigel Anthony Eastwood, founder and group CEO of New Call Telecom International, Britain spoke on “Artificial intelligence”, while Vimal Wakhlu, former chairman of Telecom Consultancy of India Limited (TCIL), spoke on emerging technologies, opportunity and challenges.
Heli Aru Chabilan, director of international affairs unit, Education and Youth Authority Estonia, spoke on “Heralding the future of education” and Ashok Kumar Seethar Aman, centre director (e-government leadership centre) of National University of Singapore, spoke on the topic “Use of technology for digital government service in Singapore”.
