Cases continue to rise, state tally at 7,698

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): Nagaland’s COVID-19 tally rose to 7,698 on Saturday as 94 more people tested positive for the infection, the state Health and Family Welfare Department said.

Dimapur district reported the highest number of new cases at 55, followed by Kohima (23), Mon (9), Zunheboto (3) while Mokokchung and Peren reported 2 cases each, according to the bulletin issued by the health department’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.


Of the new cases, 80 were from traced contacts, 9 from armed forces/security personnel, 4 from returnees/travellers and one front line worker.

As many as 30 people, 22 from Dimapur and 8 from Kohima, have been cured of the disease in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 6,076.

There are 1,529 active cases in the state out of which 1,469 cases are asymptomatic, 43 cases are mild, 12 cases are moderate on oxygen, 1 case is severe on oxygen, 2 cases are critical with oxygen and 2 cases are on ventilators


A total of 21 patients have died of COVID-19, 6 were COVID positive but ‘not COVID related,’ while probe is underway to determine the cause of one other fatality, the bulletin stated.

Altogether 65 COVID-19 patients have migrated to other states.
