Peren, July 28 (MExN): Thousands of people from the Kuki community across Nagaland gathered at Ahthibung town in Peren district for a ‘candle light vigil and solidarity prayer’ to show support for the Kuki-Zo people affected by the violence in Manipur.
The vigil was organised by Kuki Nute Kiloikhom (Nagaland), the apex body of women from Nagaland’s Kuki community in collaboration with several other civil society organisations on July 26.
A press release issued by Media Cell, Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland stated that people joined the peaceful programme with placards and posters condemning the violence against Kuki-Zo people of Manipur.
The participants conveyed their sympathy to the Kuki-Zo women who were subjected to “humiliation, sexual assault and even murder,” and appealed the Centre to serve justice to the women, children and men of the Kuki-Zo community.
