Can Youth organises advocacy programme on education, health

Jalukie, February 6 (MExN): Can Youth organised an awareness and advocacy programme on, “Right to Education, Right to Health (Drug Abuse, Mental Health & Menstrual Hygiene) Skill Building and Leadership” followed by formation of Adolescent Girls Club under its Initiative project ‘Development4Adolescent’ and supported by Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies (RNP) on February 4 at Mhainamtsi village under Jalukie, Peren district.

In the first hour of the programme, Jenpu Rongmei, Founder and Chief Functionary of Can Youth appreciate the Rongmei Community of Mhainamtsi village for giving the opportunity and shared about the thematic areas of Can Youth and stressed on why proper guidance is important during the Adolescent stage. 

A short meeting with the village leaders was also held and formed a Child/Adolescent Support Committee (CASC) to take a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of children and adolescents. The committee should be formed in order to address and prevent issues relating to child and adolescent development.

Mary Konyak, Project Coordinator, Can Youth took the session with the adolescent girls, during the session she encouraged the adolescent girls to learn and know about the menstrual cycle, mental health and how it is important for their health. She further explained about the formation and guidelines for Adolescent Girls club, and about the various activities relating to leadership, menstrual hygiene, mental health, Right to Education and substance abuse, brainstorming workshops, adolescent fest, and Adolescent Retreats which will be conducted once the club is formed.

After the awareness and advocacy under the supervision of Can Youth, two adolescent groups was formed, Can Youth also looking forward to initiated more adolescent club with other community covering more villages in Peren district, at present Can Youth has more than 10 adolescent clubs in Dimapur and Dhansiripar, Chümoukedima District.
