The Assam Rifles has seized drugs worth over Rs 4,000 crore during the last three years, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) Major General Manish Kumar stated on Thursday. This is only Assam Rifles’ data; if the seizures by Nagaland Police are included, the amount would be much higher, he noted while addressing the audience as the chief guest at the culminating programme of an awareness campaign on mental health and substance abuse, themed “Breaking the Silence,” at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Chümoukedima.

However, Maj Gen Kumar stated that it is essential to reinforce the fight against the menace of illicit drugs and substance abuse.

“The challenges we confront may seem daunting, but they are not beyond our collective strength,” he underscored. The mission is beyond the capability of any single organisation or university and requires the dedication of every member of society, united as one, he added, stressing the need for collective action to create a drug-free environment.

The campaign was organised by Aid, Care, Trust, Support (ACTS) in collaboration with the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) and the Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland. Miss Northeast 2023, Kenei Ritse, Miss Nagaland 2023, Neiketuno Sechü, and Miss Nagaland 2022, Hikali Achumi, were part of the awareness campaign, aligning with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
