Anti-Dengue Month: Dimapur focuses on mosquito elimination, awareness activities

Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, Dimapur district observed Anti-Dengue Month in the month of July under the theme ‘Dengue prevention and control is everyone’s responsibility. Together we can make a difference.’

According to a press release received on Monday, Dr A Kavito Zhimomi, DPO, CD-1 Dimapur stated that several interventions and awareness activities were carried out to prevent and control dengue in the rural areas of the district with one of the main activities being mosquito-elimination activity.

He stated that with the involvement of communities, mosquito breeding places such as stagnant water collection points were removed in and around residential areas. The communities also carried out social work and cleanliness drives in their respective localities to get rid of mosquito breeding grounds. With the onset of monsoon season, the best way to prevent vector borne diseases is to reduce mosquito breeding places, the release stated.

The NVBDCP staffs including Senior Malaria Inspector, Malaria Inspector, District VBD Consultant, Malaria Technical Supervisor, Surveillance Inspectors, Surveillance Workers and ASHAs conducted awareness programmes on Vector-borne Diseases particularly dengue in 50 villages and also carried out sample collection in several villages to prevent and control outbreak of any vector borne diseases in the district.

The health workers also carried out awareness activities focusing on use of mosquito nets and mosquito repellants, removal of mosquito breeding sites and recommended fever patients to get tested for vector borne diseases for early detection and treatment, the release stated.
