Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): In a significant development, the Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) today announced its intent to initiate formal peace dialogues with both India and Myanmar, with various strong caveats. The action is not out of weakness for NSCN and Nagas, it insisted, but for peace, prosperity, and development.

“To ensure Peace, Prosperity, and Development in the entire Naga inhabited areas, peace with India and Myanmar will be initiated formally,” asserted a statement received here, appended by the Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) Chairman Maj Gen (Rtd) Ang Mai; Vice-Chairman, Nyeiton Konyak; and General Secretary, Kughalu Mulatonu.

It further asserted that the “political dialogue with India will only be for Sovereignty or anything above the Indian Constitution.” “In case of a temporary arrangement, it will be above the Framework and Agreed Position,” it added.

The Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) also asserted that the NSCN will not be a “party to any NGOs, Civil Society, Political and Government” and shall “only be the guardian of the Naga Sovereignty.” “Nagas cannot serve both God and Mammon nor Nationalism and Factionalism. With a change of century and generations, change in leaderships, Nagas must only serve Naga Nationalism and no other,” it added.

As per the Naga political group, it was compelled to issue the statement against the backdrop of “stormy political factionalism among the Nagas and disillusionment brought about by the bilateral talks with the Government of India by the parties involved in talks.”

Giving a background to its stance, the Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) stated that with the signing of Shillong Accord on November 11, 1975, by the NNC and “surrendering to India,” the founding fathers of NSCN (GPRN) laid the foundation of the “Naga Nationalism for Sovereignty based upon the principle of ‘self-sufficiency, Socialism and Nagaland for Christ.”

These three principles will be the guiding light throughout Nagas’ political journey, it added.

The Khaplang Plan of 1997 for Peace and Unity of the Nagas within the principle of “Forgive and Forget” as incorporated under the banner of Nagaland for Christ would also remain “irreversible,” it asserted.

The NSCN and its Council of Naga Churches (CNC) will be actively involved in sowing the seeds of Nagaland for Christ in the entire Naga inhabited areas, it added.

The Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) also stated that the Nagas have always kept its doors opened for neighbours and today, the NSCN will not shy away from this moral responsibility.
