9th Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Meet 2024 celebrates 29 years of unity

The 9th Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Meet 2024 at Pfutsero town in Phek district, under banner of Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) and Sümi Hoho, today resolved to reiterate the resolution of CPO and Sümi Hoho at M. Tsügho Village on May 9, 1998 to resolve all inter-tribal and inter-village disputes between the two tribes to maintain mutual harmony and brotherhood.

With the gathering of nearly 7000 Chakhesang and Sümi communities, this 9th meet marked 29 years celebration of Chakhesang- Sümi Brotherhood Meet, which started in 1995.

The 9th Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Meet unanimously resolved to dedicate Sedzu/Yeti-Zunheboto 2 lane road to brotherhood and name Sedzu/Yeti-Zunheboto 2 lane road as “Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Road.”

It resolved that coordination meetings between Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association (CGOA) & Sümi Officers’ Union Nagaland (SOUN) will be organized by the two bodies at a convenient time to further the bond of brotherhood at intellectual levels.

The house resolved that brotherhood meet will be organized once in every three years.

The Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Meet is already running for 29 years which is a generation old and therefore, the meet resolved to expand the brotherhood horizon beyond the brotherly tribes and work for a common aspirations of like-minded people, according to a resolution read out by Vihoshe Muru, convenor Joint Literature Committee.

The house also resolved to endorse the Joint Literature Committee of Brotherhood to properly document “our history post celebration with photographic evidences and oral interviews.”

Earlier, opening remarks was given by Theja Therieh, convenor, Chakhesang-Sümi Brotherhood Meet Committee while welcome address was delivered by Vezühü Keyho, president, Chakhesang Public Organization.

Sümi Hoho vice president Otova Chishi read out greetings message from Sümi Hoho president Dr. Vihuto Asümi.

G. Kaito Aye, Minister for PWD (R&B) and Kuzholüzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA & Leader of NPF Legislature Party spoke on behalf of Sümi legislators and Chakhesang legislators respectively.

Kashito Yepthomi, Advisor, Sümi Kükami Hoho and Z. Lohe, former speaker Nagaland Legislative Assembly also exhorted the gathering.

The programme also witnessed short speeches from Sümi Officers’ Union Nagaland and Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association.

The meet also marked by exchange of souvenir between Chakhesang Public Organization & Sümi Hoho, Chakhesang legislators & Sümi legislators, Chakhesang Gazetted Officers’ Association & Sümi Officers’ Union Nagaland, Phek District GBs Association & Sümi Kükami Hoho, Chakhesang Mothers’ Association & Sümi Totimi Hoho, Chakhesang Youth Front & Sümi Youth Organization, Chakhesang Students’ Union & All Sümi Students’ Union and Western Chakhesang Hoho & Western Sümi Hoho.
Vote of thanks was proposed by CPO former president Timikha Koza.
