8-day total lockdown in Dimapur begins

It was a quiet Sunday in Dimapur, the first day of the eight-day total lockdown as roads were bereft of vehicles and pedestrians. The lockdown’s objective was to curb the spread of Covid-19, carry out effective contact tracing, detection of suspected cases and implementation of isolation measures.

To effect the lockdown, several localities in Dimapur also voluntarily sealed the entry and exit points. Police personnel on duty when contacted, said that it was a positive sign that people voluntarily remained indoors. Police also sought further cooperation of public by adhering to lockdown guidelines as notified till August 2.

As per the lockdown measures– all categories of shops are to remain closed except pharmacies. All public movement has been prohibited, except medical emergencies.

Day 2 of lockdown in Kohima: The second day of the 7-day total lockdown of all municipal areas (19 wards) in Kohima passed off peacefully on Sunday.

The total lockdown began on July 25 and will end on July 31.

The state capital also wore a deserted look as citizens were aware of the situation where 28 fresh COVID cases were detected in Kohima on Sunday.

Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) also urged the public not to panic but to follow all lockdown measures and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) notified by the state government in order to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection in the state capital.

Another die of suspected COVID
Another patient, who had tested positive for COVID-19 died Sunday afternoon in Dimapur District COVID-19 Hospital. According to reports, the 82-year old patient, was admitted to the COVID-19 hospital Dimapur on July 18. The patient had multiple health issues (comorbidities) such as– diabetes, a history of open-heart surgery, pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic bilateral pneumonia etc.

The patient had earlier tested positive for COVID through TrueNat and a confirmation through RT-PCR on July 20 also returned positive. As per report, the patient’s ARDS chest x-ray showed “bilateral massive lung consolidation and tissue damage, typical of COVID positive”.

With this, the tally of COVID-19 related deaths rose to six since July 21. Incidentally, all deaths have been reported from Dimapur district. Of six, two were residents of Assam (a 72-year old man who died of co-morbidity and a 32-year old married woman). It was reported that the patient who died on Sunday, was a resident of Ward No. 18 Zeliangrong colony. He was initially treated at Shamrock Hospital then shifted to Nikos Hospital. He was later taken to Eden Hospital and admitted to ICU and intubated after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

The first COVID-19 test of the patient through TrueNat at Eden hospital laboratory was positive for COVID-19. He was then immediately shifted to the district COVID hospital and admitted to the ICU and put under ventilator. Later swab samples tested through RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19.

Following the result , DC Dimapur ordered temporary sealing of Shamrock Hospital; ICU & emergency ward of Nikos Hospital; ICU block of Eden Hospital; H.No. 15, Ward-18, Zeliangrong colony (Dhobinalla) and nearby buildings.

Meanwhile, it was reported that all Standard Operating Procedures were undertaken in handling the body of the patient by the dead body management committee of the district hospital. It was also learnt that the body was handed over to the district authorities on Sunday night for burial at the new Naga cemetery at Zani village area Dimapur.
