Dimapur | December 15
A total of 11 sports infrastructure projects have been sanctioned under the Khelo India programme in Nagaland over the last three years. Out of these, six have been completed, while two are in various stages of construction, as per data available on the Infrastructure Projects Status Under Khelo India Scheme dashboard (https://mdsd.kheloindia.gov.in). Construction for the remaining three projects is yet to commence.
The total sanctioned funds for these 11 projects amount to Rs54.75 crore, of which Rs48.18 crore has been released, the dashboard indicated (See Box)
The issue was raised by Nagaland’s lone Member of Parliament, S Phangnon Konyak, in the Rajya Sabha on December 12. She inquired about the number of sports infrastructure projects sanctioned under the Khelo India programme in Nagaland and their current status.
In response, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, provided details about the projects, their sanctioned costs, and the funds released. He noted that information on their physical and financial progress is publicly available on the Khelo India dashboard.
Dr Mandaviya clarified that funds under the Khelo India Scheme are allocated scheme-wise rather than state-wise. Over the past three financial years, Rs869 crore was allocated in 2021-22, Rs600 crore in 2022-23, and Rs880 crore in 2023-24. Out of these allocations, Rs764.29 crore, Rs596.39 crore, and Rs872.20 crore, respectively, were released.
These funds have been utilised for various components of the Khelo India Scheme, including the development of sports infrastructure, establishment of Khelo India Centres, Khelo India State Centres of Excellence, accredited academies, and support for athletes under the programme, he added.
