New Delhi, August 27 (agencies): India reported 44,658 new Covid-19 cases and 496 deaths in the last 24 hours, ending at 8 AM on Friday. With this the country’s caseload has increased to 3,26,03,188, while the death toll has risen to 4,36,861. India on Thursday completed administering at least one dose of the Covid-19vaccine to half its eligible adult population, as it crossed 61.10 crore cumulative vaccinations across the country.
Meanwhile, in view of the rising number of Delta plus variant cases in Maharashtra, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Thursday made institutional quarantine or hospitalisation mandatory for every patient testing positive for coronavirus in the city, PTI reported. Municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B has issued an order regarding this and directed all zone commissioners to put patients testing coronavirus positive under institutional quarantine or ensure their hospitalization, a NMC release said.
For the second consecutive day, Kerala reported over 30,000 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday. According to the data shared by the state health ministry, 30,007 coronavirus cases, 162 deaths and 18,997 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours. Active cases stood at 1,81,209. A total of 1,66,397 samples were tested in last one day while the test positivity rate is 18.03%.
Stating that Kerala accounts for 58.4 per cent new Covid cases reported last week, Health Ministry on Thursday said the southern state now has over 1 lakh active cases. Addressing the media, it also said at present 41 districts in India are reporting weekly positivity rate of more than 10 per cent.
