The insurance cover for personnel of the Nagaland Police, who “die in harness” (before retirement), has been increased to Rs 30 lakh, the Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland, T John Longkumer informed recently.

Discussing some of the targets he wished to achieve before retiring, in an interactive programme organised by the Mokokchung Police and AIR, Mokokchung and Mokokchung Premier TV, the DGP maintained that the welfare of the personnel was ‘very important.’

According to him, when he took charge in 2018, the insurance cover for the state police personnel was “quite low” at less than Rs 5 lakh.

While informing that the department has tied up with the SBI and HDFC and enhanced the insurance cover, he said that the department is targeting premium-free insurance of up to Rs 30 lakh “for each constable, who expires in harness.”

This, he said, would ensure that the family of personnel killed in action or in accidents would get sufficient amount for survival.
