NCD president Ghokheto Chophy laid to rest

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, DEC 13 (NPN): People from different walks of life paid rich tributes to Naga Council Dimapur president, K. Ghokheto Chophy at the funeral service held here on Sunday at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School ground, organized by Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church (DSBC).

Late Ghokheto passed away in Delhi on December 11 after a prolonged illness and left behind his wife and two children. He was laid to rest at the New Naga cemetery, Zani village area Dimapur. As a mark of respect, business establishments in Dimapur also down shutters on Sunday.

Speaking at the funeral service, NCD vice president (Adm) Etsungmomo Kikon expressed deep pain over the demise of his colleague and said it was darkest day not only for the council but also the citizens and various organizations of Dimapur.

Kikon described late Chophy as a man of principle who pursued his responsibilities with zeal and determination to achieve them.

As a social worker and true leader of masses, Kikon said that Chophy always sacrificed and stood for the common cause and welfare of the people in order to bring a change. On behalf of the council, Kikon conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

Expressing grief and sorrow over the demise, DSBC deacon, Phukato Zhimo said that late Chophy was an active member of DSBC. The Sümi community in particular and Nagas in general have lost a kind hearted and a God fearing leader, he said, adding that death was inevitable to all of us.

In his speech, son of late Ghokheto, Akihito Chophy described his father as a courageous, bold and loving person.

He recalled how his father used to share his stories and experiences, which will be missed and remembered.

Daughter of Ghokheto, Atokili Chophy, in her message, shared the experience of the family during the treatment of her after in Delhi, during the past three months. She said that even though people described her father as a dynamic person, for the family he was a loving and caring father who considered himself as an ordinary man. Atokili also shared about the beautiful memories and time spent with her father from childhood.

Wife of late Chophy, Hosihili Kiba thanked every individual who came to pay their respects and for the support and love extended to the family during the hour grief.

Hosihili, in her emotional message, said that her husband breathed his last on the day of their 33rd marriage anniversary (December 11, 1987-2020).

She also described her husband as a loving father and a wonderful husband.

Others organizations such as Western Sümi Hoho, Central Nagaland Tribes, Chophimi Lagha Kuposhukulu Nagaland, Sumi Council Dimapur, Riverbelt Colony Council, Hindu Seva Samiti, Muslim Council Dimapur, Asukhomi GB, Asukhomi Union Dimapur, Asukho Kughuko, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Dimapur Naga Students Union, friends and relatives spoke at the funeral and paid tributes to the departed soul.

The service was chaired by DSBC associate pastor Kanili Aye and DSBC senior pastor Rev. S Vitoshe Swu conducted the funeral rites.
