DIMAPUR, DEC 5 (NPN): After a meeting between a high level delegation from Nagaland led by minister of higher education and tribal affairs Temjen Imna Along with Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other officials at Guwahati, it was decided that both sides lift their blockades on either side of the Mariani-Mokokchung border.
Informing this through a statement, state BJP unit said the meeting deliberated on the ongoing economic blockade imposed at Mariani-Mokokchung road by various organisations of Assam. It may be recalled that in retaliation, some groups from Nagaland also reportedly imposed blockade at their side.
After the meeting at Guwahati, stte BJP informed that both sides would take initiatives to ensure that the blockades on either side should be lifted at the earliest and for which necessary initiatives will be undertaken without delay. State BJP also informed that both sides also appealed to all concerned to refrain from any untoward acts that may vitiate peaceful atmosphere and neighbourly relations.
During the meeting, both sides reiterated the importance of living peacefully as neighbours. It was also reiterated that Assam and Nagaland have had a long association throughout history and also acknowledged that neighbourly relations should not be allowed to turn sore at any cost for the mutual benefit of both sides. Both delegations also stressed on the need for both States have to work together hand in hand so that any issues which crop up should be settled amicably.
The delegation from Nagaland also included advisor Horticulture and Border Affairs Mhathung Yanthan while state BJP functionaries attended the meeting as emissaries of Nagaland chief minister.
Assam chief secretary Jishnu Barua; addl. chief secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur and commissioner and secretary (Home & Pol Dept.) GD Tripathi also attended the meeting.
