Correspondent KOHIMA, SEP 28 (NPN) : Advisor Industries & Commerce, Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Imnatiba, launched the “Livelihood Generation Programme for Returned Migrant Workers due to COVID-19 pandemic” funded by North Eastern Council at Nagaland civil secretariat conference hall here Monday.
Speaking at the launching programme, Imnatiba said that the scheme was a direct outcome of the efforts of the state government to address the issues of unemployment and displacement caused by the pandemic.
He said that there were about 15,019 registered returnees excluding students, medical patients, armed forces and others. He said that only 100 would be selected after going through a lot of screenings for availing the livelihood generation programme.
Imnatiba lamented that despite having best government schemes people were not availing. He, therefore, encouraged the migrant workers to come forward, adding that whoever gets selected should make best use of the skill training and seed money given through the programme. Advisor assured that the programme would be actively monitored by the Department and would ensure transparency and impartiality.
Pointing out that a lot of families that depended on remittances from people working outside of the state have been affected by COVID-19 pandemic, the advisor said that the Central and the state governments were, therefore, working to address the issue. Imnatiba stated that the focus of the programme was on service sector and manufacturing sector.
Delivering a brief speech, commissioner secretary, industries & commerce, Kekhrievor Kevichusa, informed that an amount of Rs. 2.40 crore has been sanctioned for the programme. He said that Rs. 2 crore has been set aside as seed money exclusively for the beneficiaries. Kevichusa said that a tentative amount of Rs. 2 lakh per beneficiary was worked out for the programme.
Industries & commerce director, K. Hokishe Assumi, said that online registration would be available in the website.
He said that applicants would be screened in four stages and 100 participants would be selected for the programme.

Eligibility criteria: returnee should be an indigenous migrant worker from Nagaland, the migrant worker returnee should have reached Nagaland via special train, airway or roadway from May 22 to August 6 and the migrant worker returnee should have released documents/certificate from assigned quarantine centres.
