Kohima, September 16 (MExN): The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services has informed that the ban on import of pigs from outside the State due to the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in neighboring state of Assam has been partially lifted with immediate effect.
The department had earlier notified the ban on April 28.
However, the relaxation has been made keeping in view the economic importance and demands of the farmers and market to ensure food supply without compromising bio-security and bio-safety, the department said.
Adding that there are no cases of ASF in the State as certified, it notified that the ban is partially lifted for import of healthy and certified pigs from Punjab and Haryana, except Assam, Arunachal and states having cases of ASF.
In this regard, the department said that the following SOPs laid down vide Government of Assam letter for license holders/transporters should be strictly adhered to:
