PAM meets CSOs, tribal bodies for early Naga accord

DIMAPUR, SEP 14 (NPN): Political Affairs Mission (PAM) of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) met various Naga civil society organisations (CSOs) on Monday at Police Complex, Chumukedima, wherein the CSOs expressed the view that all stakeholders be consulted and made signatories of the final Naga accord to rule out any misunderstandings. The CSOs included Nagaland GB Federation, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation, Tenyimia Public Organisation, Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers Association, Naga Students’ Federation and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation.

In a communiqué, PAM said its convener and Leader of Opposition, T.R. Zeliang expressed the view that unity by all Naga CSOs in one voice for an early solution was the first step towards attaining the much anticipated final solution and lasting peace in the region.

Zeliang also called upon the gathering for a collective genuine effort by all stakeholders including Naga public to facilitate and not be an obstruction in any form. He maintained that Naga political issue was highly complex, which needed practical approach, political acumen and high level of understanding between the negotiating parties.

Further, Zeliang said that positive progress was possible if tribalism, polarisation or political colours were kept away on the Naga issue and only true genuine concern for permanent peace and progress. “This will ensure that the future of Naga generations and Naga areas be free from any conflict and enable a ecosystem of self sustenance,” he said. The meeting, which reportedly lasted for almost five hours, viewed that Framework Agreement signed by NSCN (I-M) and Agreed Position by WC of NNPGs needed deliberation by government of India for “an honourable common Final Naga Accord, based on the formal talks which concluded on October 31, 2019.”

According to PAM, Zeliang was likely to leave for New Delhi soon to meet Central leaders to convey the aspirations of the people for permanent peace in the region and the need of drafting of common Naga accord by the Government of India for early solution. PAM convenor was also joined by a few NPF core members for an interaction. PAM said that NTC has acknowledged the invitation, but regretted from attending the meeting due to prior engagements.
