Citizens panic-buy supplies ahead of total lockdown
Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, JUL 25 (NPN): A comprehensive eight-day lockdown of Dimapur will begin starting Sunday (July 26), with the objective to break the chain of spreading coronavirus and carry out effecting contact tracing, detection of suspected cases and implementation of isolation measures.
As Dimapur braced for an eight-day total lockdown, citizens on Saturday thronged the city markets to buy essential items even as police had a hard time in controlling the traffic.
There was a mad rush and panic purchase frenzy observed in many areas of the market. From early morning, people made a beeline for the markets. Traffic snarls were witnessed as vehicles from every part of the district rushed to the city’s main commercial hub.
Within hours, shops witnessed depleting stocks and by afternoon, most of the shops had shut due top shortage of items. Long queues were also seen outside grocery stores.
As per the lockdown measures– all categories of shops are to remain closed except pharmacies. All public movement is prohibited, except medical emergencies.
Further, movements of all types of vehicles are prohibited, except for medical emergencies.
Inter-State & Inter District Movement of all the goods Vehicles will be allowed with proper safety measures in place.
