Union Minister KJ Alphons pitches for tourism in Nagaland

The afternoon session of the 5th day cultural show at Kisama was hosted by Advisor, School Education, K.T Sukhalu and Advisor, Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan. The chief guest was Union Minister, Tourism, K.J Alphons and special guest was W.R Reddy (IAS) Director General, National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Ministry of Rural Development.

 

 

Union Minister for Tourism, KJ Alphons said Nagaland represents everything wonderful about the country. “The colour, music, dance, textile and food, it’s such an amazing place. The hyper active Chief Minister, who is everywhere, and is leading this State into an amazing state of prosperity.” He said the Central government is spending Rs.197 crore for two projects in Nagaland for tourism.

 

He further stated that for the state of Nagaland and entire North East, tourism is a future  and the Central government has given Rs. 1351 crore for the North East in Tourism sector. “I don’t really think there is any place under the sun which is more beautiful than the entire North East of India particularly Nagaland, we want millions of people to come up here and that’s the future.”

 

 

He narrated his conversation with the Union Minister of Civil Aviation regarding helicopter services from Guwahati to Dimapur to Kohima and to Imphal and from Imphal back to Dimapur, where the Minister agreed to his request. “I come from Kerela which is known as ‘God’s own land’ but I think this is ‘God’s own paradise.’ Alphons said.

 

 

The chief guest stated that Nagaland has a smart Chief Minister who is ready to build an infrastructure that is necessary to push tourism. Highlighting the projects undertaken for the poor under Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, he said “we are on a huge path of progress”. He further mentioned that Tourism industry in India provides employment to 84 million people, and India generates 234 billion dollars from Tourism contributing 7% of the GDP. Expressing his happiness on the growth of tourism within the last four and half years and the potential of Tourism, Alphons added “we have amazing people here, smiling all the time, and who are the epitome of hospitality.”

 

 

Various cultural performances by different cultural troupes were presented: Heka Lim ( fish dance) by the Zeliang troupe,  Ami Kukulu ( fire making) and Aphilo Kuwo  (war dance) by the Sümi troupe, Mükheankhi, songs of sowing season by theYimchunger troupe, and a folk song performed by the women folk of the Rengma troupe.

The anniversary was celebrated with pomp and gaiety with thousands of men and women clad in traditional attires marking the celebration more eventful, colourful and remarkable not only for the well-wishers but also for the tourists coming from outside the state. The youth irrespective of young and old from all the villages under NAYO in their traditional attires carrying indigenous guns participated at the stone pulling thereby marking the event in a befitting manner.
