A number of social and tribal organisations on Wednesday (Oct 31) brought out a joint rally demanding an immediate stop to all forms of “illegal tax collection” by Naga political groups as well government agencies, various unions and organizations. The rally was organized under the aegis of the Public Action Committee (PAC) of Dimapur based Naga Council.
A public resolution at the end of the rally demanded an immediate stop to all forms of “illegal tax collection” by Naga political groups as well government agencies, various unions and organisations in and around Dimapur district.
PAC fact-finding committee member Hekehvi Achumi informed that there are 86 unions in Dimapur out of which 41 unions, including government agencies and Naga political groups, are collecting illegal tax amounting to Rs 400 to Rs 500 Cr annually.
As per the resolutions (see below), the Naga general public reaffirmed their stand on “One Government One Tax” as resolved on October 31, 2013 rally.
The public also resolved to support and uphold “solution” not “taxation” and appealed to the Centre and the Naga political groups to solve the protracted Naga political issue “which is the ultimate solution of all illegal taxations and collections”.
