Mon Medical College expected to complete by 2026

Health & Family Welfare Minister P. Paiwang Konyak along with Commissioner & Secretary H&FW, Principal Director, department officials, engineering wing, district and police administration, district health committee members, Konyak Union and others reviewed the ongoing construction of Mon Medical College on November 23.

During the visit, the contractors provided an update on the ongoing work. Er Akang Jamir, the project engineer, reported that 25% of the physical construction work has been completed, and the project is on track to meet its deadline of November 2026.
The Mon Medical College is being built on a 93-acre site at an estimated cost of Rs 325 crore, with a funding ratio of 90:10 from the central and state governments, respectively. The project is a key initiative aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and medical education in the region, alongside the NIMSR in Kohima.

The new college will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a helipad within the campus. Er Jamir shared that the central government has already released Rs 242.5 crore of its share, and the financial progress of the project stands at 10%. The physical progress has reached 25%, with work continuing as scheduled.

Er Jamir also expressed gratitude towards the Konyak Civil Societies, Mon villagers, and the village councils for their unwavering support, which has played a crucial role in ensuring that the construction has proceeded without major disruptions.

The foundation stone for the Mon Medical College was laid by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on February 26, 2021.
