Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024: Chakhesang retains champion of state level tribal tug-of-war

Chakhesang community today retained the champion title of the state level tribal tug- of- war event held here at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima on November 22.

This event was organised by Department of Tribal Affairs, Nagaland under the aegis of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024 celebration and IEC Campaign for Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA).

Chakhesang community defeated Angami community in the 1st semi finals and overpowered Sumi tribe in the final to emerge the champion title. Angami community defeated Rengma community in the third place booth.

Angelina Tajen, NCS, Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department, Nagaland gave away prize to the champion team Chakhesang tribe at the prize distribution ceremony.

Col Tarun Rana, Commandant, 13th Assam Rifles handed over 1st runner-up prize to Sumi tribe while Er Dr Vekho Swuro, president, Nagaland Tug- of- War Association (NToWA) gave away 2nd runner-up prize to Angami tribe.

The Tribal Affairs department informed that it will continue to promote Tug- of- War game in the state.

Earlier, the event was moderated by Er Tali Sunep, Executive Engineer while  administration of oath to the participants was done by Er Chingshen, Junior Engineer.

Nagaland’s tug-of- war coach Serayi assisted the event as referee.

Lotha community wins tribal cuisine competition

Lotha community bagged the champion title of ‘Tribal cuisine competition” held here today as part of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2024 celebration and IEC Campaign for Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA). Pochury community and Sumi community stood 1st and 2nd runner-up tile respectively.

The event was moderated by Dr Meyisangla Longkumer, Joint Director, Tribal Affairs, Nagaland.

The judges for the competition included; Asano Angami, Sr Chef, Naithu Group, Chenti Phom, proprietor, DUDA Guest House Kohima and Tokupu Kathu, proprietor, Ancestral Cuisine, Kohima.
