In a historic development, the Ao Lanur Telungjem, heralded as the apex youth organization of the Ao community, was formally launched under the auspices of the Ao Senden on November 21, at an event held at Ao Senden Kilem, Mokokchung.
Speaking on the significance of the Ao Lanur Telungjem (Interim Body), Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong announced the formation of a constitution drafting committee, with Imlikumzuk Longkumer appointed as its convener. Until the constitution is formally adopted, the Ao Lanur Telungjem will operate on an interim basis, with the president of the Mokokchung Town Lanur Telungjem (MTLT), Imnaonen, serving as convener, and the president of the Dimapur Ao Lanur Telungjem (DAYO), Tia Longchar, as co-convener.
Marsanen Imsong emphasised the vital role of the youth in traditional Ao Naga village polity, which, he noted, will be reflected in the forthcoming constitution. He further entrusted MTLT and DAYO with the task of mobilizing other youth organizations during this interim period.
Highlighting the vision behind instituting the Ao Lanur Telungjem, Imsong described it as a means to secure a brighter future for the community. He cautioned the youth against succumbing to divisive interests, urging them to remain steadfast in their pursuit of truth despite challenges. “What you do today will determine whether our community rises or falls tomorrow,” he remarked.
Imsong called on the youth to uphold courage and integrity, rooted in faith and guided by truth. He warned against the debilitating effects of corruption, describing it as a pervasive ailment weakening Naga society and eroding the courage needed to stand for truth.
At the event, the Ao Senden president presided over the induction of Imnaonen and Tia Longchar as convener and co-convener of the Ao Lanur Telungjem (Interim Body). The two leaders formally pledged their commitment by appending their signatures to led Ao Lanur Telungjem (Interim Body) to wage truth for the Ao community and Naga land.
Other speakers at the event included Noklennungsang Jamir, Tongror Luden of Ao Senden, and Lipokmeren, president of Ongpangkong Mungdang spoke on behalf of the 6 Ao ranges. Both the convener and co-convener of the interim body also delivered acceptance speeches, outlining their vision and commitment. The event concluded with a dedicatory prayer led by Bendang Jamir, associate pastor of Mokokchung Town Baptist Church.
The Ao Lanur Telungjem will function under the aegis of the Ao Senden.
