Dimapur, October 29 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, T.R. Zeliang, held a meeting with the Commander of the 15 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) on Monday to address concerns over the 84.63 km stretch of the Kohima-Pedi-Peren road. This road, part of the larger Kohima-Lekie (Assam) route, has been a topic of discussion, particularly following plans for its inauguration by the Union Defence Minister despite the project’s incomplete status.
During the meeting, Zeliang conveyed public concerns, especially from the Western Angami Public Organization (WAPO) and the Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organization (NZPO), regarding the premature inauguration. In response, the BRTF Commander assured that the inauguration would not disrupt ongoing construction, with the road slated for completion by March 2025.
It was also clarified that the current work is part of regular repair and maintenance, conducted every five years, rather than a new construction project. The Deputy Chief Minister urged the BRTF to set clear milestones and timelines to ensure the project is completed within the set deadline. He further pledged the State Government’s full support to facilitate timely completion with quality workmanship.
The BRTF Commander committed to keeping the State Government updated on the project’s progress to ensure better coordination and mutual understanding.
