Tobu Town, September 9 (MExN): The Tobu Area Students’ Union, in collaboration with the local administration, organised a ‘sales day’ in Tobu Town on September 7 to support a temporary teacher’s salary.
The aim of the one-day event was to raise funds to cover the salary of a temporarily appointed Post-Graduate Teacher (PGT) in Economics at Government Higher Secondary School Tobu, informed a press release.
The need for this initiative arose following the resignation of a teacher, who left her position after being selected as an Assistant Professor through the recently declared Nagaland Public Service Commission Examination, it said. The vacancy left students, particularly those in Class 12, facing challenges as half of their syllabus remained uncovered, with their selection exam scheduled for October, it added.
Accordingly, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shaying Shiu, along with local civil society organisations (CSOs), held a meeting to address the issue and decided on the fundraiser.
The “sales day” featured the sale of various commodities as well as encouragement for freewill donations from the community.
In speeches at the event, ADC Shiu and TASU President Chongo Konyak highlighted the challenges faced by students and the importance of community support in arranging the monthly honorarium for the temporary Economics teacher.
As per the release, the event saw remarkable community participation, with people from all walks of life coming together to support the students’ cause, marking a significant success for the collective efforts of the CSOs and the administration.
