‘The Whirlwind’ a book by Longrangty Longchar was officially launched by Imnaonen Pongen, President of Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) at conference hall, MTLT Office, Arkong Ward, Mokokchung on July 8.
Imnaonen Pongen expressed his excitement and pride in celebrating the release of Longrangty Longchar’s latest book stating that Longchar is a very accomplished author known for his boundless creativity. He viewed the occasion as a key milestone in Longchar’s literary career, and he was honoured to be a part of such a special event.
“From the moment Longrangty shared the idea for this book with me, I knew it was something extraordinary in the making,” Imnaonen remarked. “This book is a testament to his dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the craft of writing. It reflects countless hours of hard work, late nights, and moments of inspiration that have culminated in this beautiful piece of literature before us,” he added.
“As we gather here today to celebrate the release of this book, let us not only applaud Longchar’s achievement but also recognize the importance of supporting and celebrating creativity in all its forms,” Imnaonen urged. “Let us be inspired by his dedication and determination in bringing this book to life and carry forward its message in our own journeys.”
Longrangty Longchar in his “A Note from the Author” stated that the novel ‘The Whirlwind’ was inspired by the encouragement of his friends to write another fictional story about our society. “The Whirlwind is my third book with Heritage Publishing House, after Timeless Whispers and Seven Stones and as a writer, I get enormous joy from knowing that my novels are being read, whether they are liked or critiqued,” he said.
Longchar further added that ‘The Whirlwind’ is a product of his imagination, and while it may resemble common life in our society, it remains a work of fiction. “I encourage readers to approach it with an open mind and hope they find joy in its pages. Finally, I thank God for His blessings and hope that the book will be as much a blessing to others as it has been for me,” he said.
Dr Asangla Tzudir of Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur, was unable to attend but conveyed a message celebrating the launch of the book “The Whirlwind” and honoring its author, Longrangty Longchar, for his exceptional storytelling ability that reflects Naga existential realities
Her message read “Heritage Publishing House expressed immense pride in collaborating with Longrangty, starting from his first book ‘Timeless Whispers,’ followed by ‘Seven Stones,’ and culminating in his latest work, ‘The Whirlwind.’”
“As a publisher, I truly appreciate the way Longrangty engages readers in his stories,” Dr Tzudir’s message conveyed. “He began with short story collections and has invested considerable time into ‘The Whirlwind,’ which he considers very special.”
“The Whirlwind,” a fictional narrative, offers insight into overlooked aspects of Naga society, addressing themes such as conversations at funerals, perceived hypocrisy in Naga churches, state corruption, alcohol addiction, and reflections on death and religion. The author skillfully captures diverse ideologies about death and religion,” the message highlighted. “In reading the book, readers are reminded that life seldom follows a plan, instead unfolding as a whirlwind of incidents and emotions we must navigate.”
Molungnenla Pongen, Assistant Professor at Jubilee Memorial College, chaired the event, while Toshimenla Walling, Headmistress of Children School Mokokchung, pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
