‘Our elders deserve the best care and attention’

Underscoring the importance of upholding the values of compassion and empathy in this fast-changing world, Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan on Friday asserted that “our elders deserve the best care and attention” and that, it is a collective responsibility to provide it.

He was addressing the inauguration of Rain Water Harvesting Storage Tank, funded by him at the Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home in Meriema on June 21. “Let this reservoir stand as a testament to our unwavering respect and commitment to our elders”, he remarked.

In this regard, he also underlined the need to work together to create more such opportunities that enhance the quality of life for senior citizens. By doing so, he emphasized that, “we not only honor them but also set an example for future generations to follow.”

Describing the elderly community as “the pillars of our society, the bearers of wisdom and cherished traditions”, he asserted that their “contributions have shaped the society we live in today, and it is our duty to ensure that your golden years are filled with comfort, peace, and joy.”

The water tank has the capacity to store about 40,000 litres of water. The Governor meanwhile remarked that it encompasses the spirit of care and respect we must hold for our elderly community, and went on to say that, “this water tank is a small gesture of gratitude for everything you have done for us.”

He further maintained that the water reservoir is more than just a structure while underscoring that, “it is a symbol of our commitment to ensuring the well-being and comfort of the elderly residents of this esteemed home.”

“Water is essential to life, and by providing a reliable supply, we are addressing one of the most fundamental needs, ensuring that our senior citizens live with dignity and without worry”, he underlined. 

Neithonuo Liegise, Chairperson, GSWS thanked the Governor for his patronage and constant support. The Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home currently has 23 senior citizens from different districts of Nagaland under its care. Earlier, Rev G Khing Rengma delivered the invocation. The Governor of Nagaland also interacted with the senior citizens after the formal inauguration of the Water Reservoir.
