‘BARISTA SKILLS FOR A PERFECT CUP’: Ètè Coffee commemorates 8th anniversary

In commemoration of its 8th anniversary, a five-day collaborative training programme of Coffee Board of India with Ètè Coffee was organised under ‘Barista skills for a perfect cup’ at Ètè Coffee School, Kohima from June 18 to 22.

CEO of Ètè Coffee, Lichan Humtsoe said Ètè Coffee School aims to empower individuals with comprehensive coffee education, equipping them with the skills to achieve in the global coffee industry.

With its base also in Imphal, Manipur, Ètè Coffee School is poised to transform the coffee landscape of the region and beyond, he maintained.

Briefly highlighting its achievements since its inception on December 28, 2019, Humtsoe said Ètè Coffee School have trained 218 individuals through eight distinct coffee courses which, he added is meticulously designed to ensure that the graduates can seamlessly integrate into coffee industries around the world.

With Ètè Coffee School at the forefront of coffee education in Northeast India, he said, it is driven by a vision to elevate the region’s coffee industry to international heights, and creating a new generation of coffee professionals who will lead India to a prominent position on the global coffee map.

Emphasising on the need to create a ‘distinct niche for ourselves’ in coffee industry, he said focus on fostering value addition sectors within the coffee industry is the need of the hour, by optimising local and national resources and build a robust domestic market.

Highlighting the significant impact of Ètè Coffee on Nagaland’s coffee sector at the inaugural session, Jayanta Ghosh, Deputy Director (Extension) Coffee Board said Ètè Coffee is a landmark for the state for not only helping people and creating spaces for people to gather, but also for successfully establishing Ètè Coffee School and Roastery with the Naga Coffee brand.

Ghosh acknowledged the pivotal role of the Land Resource Department (LRD) in the area expansion and development of coffee industry in the state by pocketing every resource in every district of the state.

‘This wouldn’t have been possible without the department as it is not possible for the Coffee Board alone to manage as the area of operation is very vast in the state’ said Ghosh adding “we are in a platform to develop coffee fraternity in the state of Nagaland.”

He also maintained that Nagaland has set a precedent in the coffee sector, inspiring other states in Northeast region to enter the coffee business.

Also speaking on the occasion, Albert Ngullie, Director LRD lauded Ètè Coffee for its remarkable progress and influence on Nagaland’s coffee industry since 2016 with its vision and dedication.

Stating that along with meat, coffee business is one area where one cannot fail as it has tremendous potential for growth, Ngullie urged the youngsters to venture into this sector.

“Why look for job opportunities when you have the opportunity at your doorstep” he stated and assured of the department’s help and support for any serious young people who are really aspiring to go for coffee business.

While urging and looking forward for young people’s participation towards coffee business and expansion in Nagaland, Ngullie reassured the department’s support to achieve their coffee venture.
