‘Hereditary derivations & origins should be always preserved’: Advisor Pangjung

In this fast growing era where Science & Technology is in high pace, Nagaland’s Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Advisor A Pangjung Jamir encouraged the youngsters to preserve “our culture and tradition.”

“There are many indigenous people and tribes across the world from the Arctic to the Pacific but we Ao’s are very privileged as we have very distinctive cultural and traditional practices thus a cultured person is always looked up and respected,” Jamir said while addressing the 18th edition of NI Jamir Academic Excellence Award ceremony at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on May 25.

“One’s hereditary derivations and origins should be always saved and preserved,” he said.

He maintained that traditional dresses and materials that symbolizes one’s own identity should be conserved by all the younger people.

“Ao’s also have a very distinctive way to address each other but the youths of today make it easier with words from English or Nagamese. Hence, I urge all the younger generations of today (Ao’s) to address both the elder and the younger people in the society with the proper words in our language which will maintain a stronger bond among all,” he said.

And above all, he said, our own language should be spoken and practiced as it is evident that many youths of today’s generation are slowly evading from practicing and preserving our own culture and eluding more towards Indian and Western culture.

‘There are always new ideas to imagine’

There are always new ideas to imagine, and new avenues to explore, with the intent to benefit our local and global communities, Jamir said.

Stating that striving for excellence can lead to personal fulfillment, professional success, and recognition from others, he said “It requires dedication, hard work, and a willingness to go above and beyond what is expected.”

In essence, excellence is about setting high standards for yourself and consistently meeting or exceeding those standards in pursuit of your goals, he told the students.

Stating that the 21st century is known as the “Era of Technology,” he said “Without advancement in Science and Technology, any society of community would be deemed as a backward society.”

The field of Information Technology (IT) is known for its promising career opportunities and the potential for growth.

“The future is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Nagas are too stuck with the over-exhausted career of doctors and engineer. It is time to go beyond these opportunities by conquering Space and the potentials of Science and Technology,” he said.

Many live up to their dreams with dedication but also many falls in the traps of intoxications and abuse of substance like drugs, alcohol, etc, he said and believed that the one’s gathered in today’s programme are determined to excel even in the days ahead and bring laurels and success to the land.

‘Education is the foundationto generate wealth’
He said that academic excellence stands as a cornerstone in a child’s journey towards a prosperous future. “It is not only an ability to score high marks, but it also includes the ability to cope with the changing world and be well equipped for the future and includes the ability to display the superior performance in all scholastic and moral activities including good behavior and Fear of the Lord,” he said.

He said that education is the foundation to generate wealth for our society and nation.

“The desire to excel is exclusive of the fact whether someone else appreciates it or not. “Excellence” is a drive from inside, not outside. Excellence is not for someone else to notice but for your own satisfaction and efficiency,” Jamir said.

Stating that life as we see every day has become fast paced and highly competitive, he told the students to have proper career plan set their priorities right.

“Many students navigate their academic journeys without a clear sense of purpose. They may choose a major/career path based on external expectations, societal pressures, or vague interests. However, without a genuine understanding of their career purpose, they may find themselves unfulfilled or unprepared for the workforce after graduation, he said.

A strong sense of career purpose helps you align your academic goals with your long-term career goals, Jamir said adding “You can choose courses, projects, and extracurricular activities that directly contribute to your chosen career path, making your education more relevant and impactful.”
