IMD forecasts fairly widespread rainfall in Nagaland

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted fairly widespread rainfall over Nagaland for the next few days, with likelihood of thunderstorms in some places on May 19 and 20.

There was rainfall in a few places in Nagaland on May 18 between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM, the IMD noted.

Despite the rainfall, the IMD’s All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued on Saturday evening reported a rise in temperatures in the State, with both minimum and maximum temperatures appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) in some places over Nagaland.

Meanwhile, on May 19, there is a forecast for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (with speeds reaching 30-40 km/h) in some places.

On May 20, the IMD predicted thunderstorms with lightning in some parts of the state.

Similar conditions are expected across the North-East during this period, the national weather forecasting agency informed.
Overall, the seven-day weather outlook of the IMD forecasted fairly widespread rainfall over Nagaland and most North-East states until May 24.

The IMD attributed the current weather conditions in the region to a cyclonic circulation lying over North-East Assam and its neighbourhood in the lower tropospheric levels.

Apart from the NE states, rainfall is also forecasted in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, South Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the next 7 days.

Meanwhile, the IMD stated that the Southwest Monsoon is very likely to advance into the South Andaman Sea, some parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands during the next 2 days.
