Urges NHIDCL to pay special attention to Patkai-Kukidolong area
KOHIMA, MAY 17 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang, who is in-charge of National Highways urged upon the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and contractors to ensure safety measures and good quality roads in all the National Highways in the state, especially along the Dimapur-Kohima 4 lane road.
Addressing the coordination meeting of NHIDCL, contractors and NH (N) officials on monsoon preparedness yesterday at his office chamber, Zeliang expressed concern over the lack of safety measures along the National Highways, which often causes inconvenience to the commuters during monsoon season.
He urged upon the NHIDCL to pay special attention to accident prone regions, especially Patkai bridge-Kukidolong area along the Dimapur-Kohima 4 lane road and initiate safety measures to prevent any untoward incident, a press release from the Press Secretary to the Dy CM stated.
Zeliang also stressed on the need to prevent rock fall, maintain proper road dividers and mend potholes at the right time as safety measures. He asked the NHIDCL and contractors to keep all machineries and man power in place during monsoon, so that any blockade or obstruction can be clear at the right time and ensure smooth flow of the traffic.
The Dy CM also told the meeting that the Dimapur-Kohima 4 lane road is the main lifeline of not only Nagaland state, but also for Manipur and South-East Asian countries, hence special focus should be given to ensure good quality road and safety.
He also urged upon the NHIDCL to complete Dimapur-Kohima 4 lane road before the Hornbill Festival. He asked the NHIDCL to inform the State Government before submission of completion certificate.
In response, the NHIDCL officials and contractors assured the meeting that all precautionary safety measures will be initiated during the monsoon season. The meeting also agreed to have quarterly coordination meeting of NHIDCL, contractors, BRO and state’s National Highways.
