Tuensang | April 5
In the backdrop of the Nagaland State Cabinet and the Eastern Nagaland Legislature’s Union urging the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization to participate in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the Chang community on Thursday announced that it will not budge but will stand by its earlier resolution to abstain from participating in both the Central and State elections.
This ‘unanimous’ decision was made during a gathering of the Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) at the CKS Hall in Tuensang on April 4 while reiterating the resolution previously expressed during the ENPO Public Meeting held on February 23, 2024, in Chenmoho, and on March 19, 2024, at Tuensang Headquarters.
The august assembly convened with representation from various Chang apex organizations, community leaders, and delegates from Chang villages, attracting a significant turnout of over 428 members.
The primary resolution emanating from the meeting was a unanimous decision to abstain from participating in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. This collective stance reflects the community’s dissatisfaction with the government’s apparent inertia concerning the creation of a Frontier Nagaland Territory.
CKS President NY Choba, emphasized the community’s resolve, characterizing the boycott as a means of registering protest against the government’s perceived inaction on the FNT proposal. This territory, proposed by the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs, holds significant importance for the Chang community, he stated.
The Chang community meeting reaffirmed its commitment to seeking a resolution to the FNT issue, underscoring the importance of their voice within the political landscape.
