The Wokha Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Monday said the ‘total and indefinite bandh’ of the district will continue.

A statement jointly issued by the CSOs of Wokha district and Wokha District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WDCC&I) on February 12, further informed that it has decided to put on hold its earlier circular directing businesses in the district to open on alternate days.

Meanwhile, as the indefinite bandh continued for the 5th day, the district administration removed unauthorised structures within the “compensated land” area along National Highway-61 (New NH-2) from KM 72.400 to KM 83.000 on Monday.

The demolition exercise was undertaken from 7:00 am till 4:00 pm at various locations on the said route in the presence of the CSOs, including the Lotha Hoho, representatives of the Joint Action Committee and officials from the Department in concern.

Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, requested the public to abstain from encroaching into compensated areas as it would impact development. He said that encroachment on National Highways poses a hindrance to planned public development initiatives.

Additionally, the DC Wokha assured that the Administration will diligently clear all compensated areas along NH-2 for the Right of Way (ROW), ensuring no hindrance during the construction work, while providing ample space for public use and other developmental activities.

The demolition exercise will continue on Tuesday.
