State can progress and develop if funds are used judiciously: Rio

The state as a whole can progress and develop if the money provided by the government is being judiciously used for the purpose it is intended for.

Stating this, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the utilisation of funds provided by the government for development can lead to the development of both small and large villages which can lead to the progression of the state.

And to achieve this, he said it is important for the village leaders to display honesty and dedication towards implementation of any developmental works. However, he observed that often village leaders failed in their responsibilities.

Rio was speaking at the Sechü (Zubza) while laying the foundation stone of Mera-Sechü-Rau Seyie complex site and inauguration of the commemoration stone of the Mechüzie (playground) as the special guest.

Reiterating that the unresolved Naga Political issue has been a stumbling block to so many things, Rio however, said he was pleased with the gradual growth and development that has been taking place in the state. “There is still much to be done and we are actively involved towards this end,” he added.

The Chief Minister expressed his delight on the immense talent of the Naga youth particularly in the field of music and sports and games stating ‘it is heartening to witness the progress made by our youth in various aspects.’

Sports and game are the future and pride of the people, said Rio adding that people today, compete each other through sports and games, and not warfare.

Commending the generosity of the landowners who have donated their best lands for development where the youth can display their talents in sports and games, he said games are played with strength, and that even a small village can compete with others.

Sensing the need to empower the youth, preservation and promotion of Nagas rich cultural heritage, customs and traditions, food habits etc, Rio said that government has been working on these areas since he became the chief minister in 2004.

Nagas are gifted physically and with immense talent among the youth, Rio said adding, ‘we are second to none’ and that with proper coach and training, vast opportunities are waiting for all.

Citing the win of 79 medals at the North-East Olympic and eight medals at the national games, Rio said these developments are very encouraging.

Also stating that people from the Western Angami region has been pioneers in Naga history, he thanked them for creating another history by electing a woman from their constituency in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Rio also highlighted some development works which are soon to be taken up in the Western Angami region.

Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse as guest of honour of the programme appreciated the Sechüma community for the development works that have been made, and indicated for further infrastructural development for the progression of the youth.

She also highlighted some training programmes under WRD available for women and girls which aim to enhance their skills and provide livelihood opportunities, and urged all to avail the same.

Kruse also encouraged farming as a viable source of income, and suggested exploring various options which are available citing fertile lands, favourable climatic conditions and couple with technological advances can yield favourable results.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Sechüma village approach road under MGNREGA.

Meanwhile, BDO, RD Block, Sechü (Zubza), Neikerünuo Rutsa said the department is dedicated to uplift rural communities, and appreciated the cooperation and honesty of the village leaders and its people in successfully implementing these projects under Rural Development.
The programme also saw the presence of Minister, Metsubo Jamir, advisors HekaniJakhalu Kense, Kropol Vitsu and MLA Kevipodi Sophie and Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso among others.
